Can I install the Flume product myself?

Yes! You do not need to cut any pipes, and no plumber is required. The Flume app walks you through the entire installation step-by-step. Our world-class support team can also assist you if you have any problems or questions during the installation.

How long does it take to install the Flume product?

Most people can install our product in less than 15 minutes. However, sometimes meter pits are a little messy, and you may have to do some digging… Also, people often have to scramble to find their Wi-Fi passwords… Either of these two situations might add some time to your installation.

Do I need power and/or Wi-Fi near my water meter?

You do NOT need to have power or Wi-Fi near your water meter. The Water Sensor device straps onto your meter and is battery-powered.

The Water Sensor device (on your meter) communicates to the Bridge device (inside your home) via RF (Radio Frequency). The Bridge device must be connected to power and must be able to access your Wi-Fi network, however, it can be located anywhere in your home.

As a general rule, your water meter should be less than 1000 feet away from the Bridge device in your home.

Can I use a Flume device with a Wi-Fi hotspot?

Yes. The Flume Bridge can connect to a Wi-Fi hotspot, including a Personal Hotspot on an iPhone or Android device. However, the Wi-Fi Hotspot must remain within range of the Flume Bridge for proper operation.

The Bridge must be connected to Wi-Fi at all times for the Flume to operate. If you connect the Flume Bridge to your Personal Hotspot on an iPhone or Android device and leave the range of the Flume Bridge with the mobile device, the Flume will not record water usage or notify you of a leak.
