What is a water meter?

A water meter is the device that measures the total amount of water used at your house.

How do I locate my meter?

Your meter is found inside your meter pit. You will find a round or square metal or plastic lid near the property line along the street. Once you purchase the Flume device, South Tahoe Public Utility District will send you an email with a map of your meter location.

The meter pit might have shrubs, vegetation, or grass that has grown over it. So you might have to poke around with a shovel to find it.

Why is there insulation in my meter pit?

The insulation is in your meter pit to help protect your meter from freezing. Replace the insulation after installing the Flume device.

I’m a second homeowner, what if I can’t install the device within 30 days?

If you are a second homeowner and cannot install the device within 30 days, please contact Flume at support@flumewater.com.

Do I need special equipment to lift the lid?

All you need is a flat-head screwdriver or the meter pit opener tool that comes in your Flume box. If it hasn't been opened for a while, you might need to scrape off some of the dirt from around the edges.

Who will be able to view my water usage data?

Your water usage data can be viewed by STPUD and Flume.
